The Opportunity

The Manager, Major Accounts is responsible for managing a specific portfolio of clients, with a focus on business development, account retention, contract negotiation, and exceptional customer service. The role requires an ability to navigate complex client needs, drive service performance, and ensure satisfaction with the company’s supply chain solutions, particularly in the areas of customs brokerage and consulting services for Canadian and U.S. imports. This position will require some travel and may involve working outside of regular business hours to meet client needs.

Position Description

  • Client Relationship Leadership
    • Develop and implement account strategies, identifying key contacts within the client organization.
    • Establish connections across multiple levels, beyond the primary Customs contact, to foster long-term relationships.
    • Proactively seek opportunities for cross-selling services, ensuring alignment with both current and future client needs.

 

  • Client Operations & Performance Management
    • Lead and facilitate monthly client operations meetings and quarterly business reviews (QBRs) with both internal and external stakeholders.
    • Ensure that client performance expectations are clearly understood and met.
    • Monitor and resolve service issues, escalating to upper management if necessary to ensure timely resolution.

 

  • Service Performance & KPI Management
    • Develop, monitor, and report on all contractual KPIs, ensuring they align with client expectations and the organization’s service commitments.
    • Identify areas for improvement and escalate non-conformance issues as needed.

 

  • Technology Support & Reporting
    • Assist clients in navigating and utilizing client portal and other technologies.
    • Provide data analysis and reporting using Excel to meet client requirements, supporting seamless communication and decision-making.

 

  • Business Growth & Solution Renewal
    • Identify opportunities for expanding services within existing accounts, collaborating with the team to create value-added solutions.
    • Lead renewal discussions for services, ensuring continued client satisfaction and long-term business relationships.

 

  • Margin Improvement & Rate Negotiation
    • Collaborate with internal teams to identify margin improvement opportunities, assist in contract renewals, and support the annual General Rate Increase (GRI) process.
    • Use effective negotiation strategies to reinforce pricing adjustments or fee increases.

 

  • New Business Onboarding & Administrative Support
    • Lead the onboarding process for new clients, ensuring a smooth transition and successful implementation of services.
    • Provide administrative support, including managing client documentation, fee structures, and client agreements as needed.

Experience

  • Minimum of 7 years of industry experience, with a demonstrated ability in account management.
  • Familiarity with industry regulations, procedures, and customs compliance is essential.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of customs brokerage, consulting services, and supply chain solutions, with a particular focus on Canadian and U.S. imports.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively, while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to various audiences.
  • Strong presentation, selling, and interpersonal skills to build relationships and identify cross-selling opportunities.
  • Ability to creatively develop solutions to meet client needs and overcome business challenges.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Salesforce, and key operating systems.
  • A natural curiosity to seek continuous improvement and see projects through to completion.

Education

  • Post-secondary degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Certified Customs Specialist (CCS), Licensed Customs Broker (LCB), or equivalent certification is highly preferred.
