The Opportunity

The Customs Coordinator manages the customs release process for shipments across all modes of transport. This involves reviewing and processing customs documentation, ensuring compliance with Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) releases and confirmations, and delivering exceptional customer service to meet client expectations. The role requires adherence to company policies while efficiently managing the customs process.

Position Description

  • Customs Release Processing:
    • Process CBSA releases for shipments, including ocean and high-value shipments, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
    • Review invoices, manifests, and supporting documents to ensure compliance with customs and corporate regulations.
    • Classify products with the correct HS tariffs and maintain an updated master database.

 

  • Documentation & Data Management:
    • Enter data from commercial invoices and other documents into the ITMR4 operating system accurately.
    • Prepare and submit paper release packages to Canada Customs as needed.
    • Ensure that client instructions are accurately followed and recorded in the system.

 

  • Client & Vendor Communication:
    • Communicate with CBSA, other government agencies, clients, carriers, and vendors to gather additional information or resolve issues.
    • Address client inquiries regarding shipment releases, statuses, and delivery arrangements.

 

  • Compliance & Monitoring:
    • Monitor shipment status, identifying and addressing any discrepancies or rejects in a timely manner.
    • Monitor “last day” reports to confirm timely entry completions with CBSA.
    • Ensure timely processing of COD charges and coordinate delivery logistics when required.

 

  • Additional Duties:
    • Obtain necessary customs paperwork, such as commercial invoices, from customers as needed.
    • Perform any other duties as required to ensure the efficient operation of the customs process.

Experience

Knowledge or experience in customs brokerage or freight forwarding.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of Customs Tariffs, regulations, and release procedures.
  • Excellent data entry skills with high attention to detail.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to apply sound judgment to resolve problems.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills in English.
