Position Description

This is a key leadership role within a dynamic, modern manufacturing facility. The Maintenance Manager plays a central part in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of all site operations. This leader oversees the full scope of facility and equipment maintenance, champions a culture of continuous improvement, and collaborates closely with Engineering on strategic projects that advance the company’s long-term operational success.

The successful candidate will lead an engaged skilled-trades team, support automation and equipment upgrades, and influence important decisions that shape site performance. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on environment, values strong safety and compliance standards, and enjoys elevating both people and processes.

 

Leadership and Team Development

  • Provide clear direction, coaching, and support to internal maintenance personnel and external contractors.
  • Create a positive, safety-focused culture that meets or exceeds all regulatory requirements.
  • Identify training needs and foster the continuous development of maintenance employees.

 

Facility and Equipment Reliability

  • Oversee the maintenance of the building, grounds, utilities, and production assets.
  • Establish and execute preventative maintenance programs that maximize uptime, extend equipment life, and ensure overall reliability.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues using root cause analysis and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Source, manage, and optimize critical spare parts inventory.

 

Contractor and Vendor Management

  • Select, coordinate, and assess contractors, ensuring documentation, deliverables, and workmanship meet expectations.
  • Support MRO and capital budgets and provide accurate reporting on maintenance performance indicators.

 

Engineering and Automation Support

  • Partner with the Engineering team on the installation, integration, and commissioning of new machinery, automation solutions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support mechanical and electrical specification work related to equipment upgrades and new technologies.

 

Operational Excellence

  • Champion Lean Daily Management practices to improve efficiency, communication, and accountability across the maintenance function.
  • Contribute to long-term planning and strategic decision making that enhances site performance and operational readiness.

 

Travel Requirements

  • Participate in off-site visits to inspect buildings, equipment, and machinery, often related to new acquisitions, relocations, or assessments.
  • Visit local suppliers to source parts and services that support ongoing maintenance needs.
  • Deliver parts to local machine shops for repair, refurbishment, or replacement.
  • Attend specialized training courses or industry trade shows to stay current with emerging technologies and best practices.
  • Be available for occasional overnight travel of up to five days when required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, or a Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technology or Technician.
  • Skilled trade certification or Project Management Professional certification is considered an asset.
  • Minimum five years of maintenance leadership or engineering supervision within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical systems, including welding, fabrication, and HVAC.
  • Experience with SCADA systems, PLCs, HMIs, and VFD troubleshooting is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Continuous Improvement, Lean principles, or Visual Management is beneficial.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, or a Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technology or Technician.
  • Skilled trade certification or Project Management Professional certification is considered an asset.
