Position Description

As the Assistant Plant Manager, you will help oversee and streamline our client’s production and maintenance operations within the plant, ensuring a continuous workflow and adherence to quality standards.

This very important position supports the operational staff in their roles and is responsible for ensuring the execution of preventative maintenance by the maintenance team, as well as addressing any urgent maintenance needs. You will also be tasked with upholding the Occupational Health and Safety Program, adhering to best manufacturing practices, and enforcing food safety policies.

Responsibilities and important tasks include:

  • Enforce safety measures for all staff by adhering to both Company and governmental Occupational Health and Safety Policies.
  • Promote a culture of safety and open dialogue.
  • Keep operations in line with plant objectives through standard procedures, labor planning, and training programs.
  • Implement skills development strategies for staff to ensure knowledge transfer and skill enhancement.
  • Foster teamwork and a positive work environment within the plant.
  • Assess staff requirements and make recommendations to the Vice President of Operations.
  • Support the Vice President of Operations in securing parts and supplies needed for uninterrupted operations.
  • Strictly apply all quality controls, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of production areas and equipment.
  • Collaborate on production planning with the Vice President of Operations and Logistics Coordinator.
  • Monitor production performance against goals and implement corrective measures as needed through continuous improvement practices.
  • Lead the improvement of operational activities to uphold the continuous improvement process.
  • Manage the preventive maintenance schedule and make suggestions to enhance equipment efficiency.
  • Introduce strategies to boost operational efficiency throughout the plant.
  • Communicate organizational goals and expectations to plant employees.
  • Ensure adherence to the company’s security measures.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance shutdowns to maximize equipment efficiency.
  • Cultivate equitable and constructive relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Lead effectively in urgent situations.
  • Conduct departmental team meetings.

Experience

5+ years of leadership experience in food production with a strong mechanical aptitude.

Qualifications

  • Thorough understanding of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Proven personnel management and leadership abilities.
  • Extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality control.
  • Expertise in Good Manufacturing Practices, HACCP, and other food safety protocols.

Education

Advanced education in a relevant field (Degree/Diploma).
