Bilingual Customer Success Specialist

Hybrid | Mississauga, ON
Job ID 10630

Company Description

Our client makes professional equipment for people who take commercial kitchens seriously.

Their customers include restaurants, hospitality operations, caterers and other foodservice businesses where getting through service successfully depends on a lot more than having good recipes. Labour, timing, capacity, consistency, equipment and workflow all matter.

That’s one reason they want someone who has actually worked in that environment.

You don’t need to be standing behind the line anymore, but you do need to understand what happens there.

This is a well-established international business with a Canadian team that works closely across sales, customer support, events and marketing. The products are technical, but they solve very practical kitchen problems. Having lived those problems yourself will give you a considerable head start.

Compensation

  • $63,000 to $67,000* base salary
  • Up to 20% annual bonus based on Canadian company performance and individual KPIs
  • 20 paid days off, including sick days, plus public statutory holidays
  • A hybrid schedule, with 3 days in the Mississauga office and 2 days remote
  • Permanent, full-time employment

There is one scheduling detail worth knowing from the beginning.

Much of your territory will be Western Canada, primarily British Columbia and Alberta, so your usual hours will be approximately 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

*The stated compensation range reflects the full scope of the role as currently structured and is provided in accordance with pay transparency requirements. Offers are determined based on relevant experience, demonstrated skills, internal equity, and alignment with the role’s requirements. The upper end of the range is typically reserved for candidates who fully meet all requirements and qualifications outlined in this posting and the official job description.

The Opportunity

Maybe you have spent the last few years running a station, supervising a kitchen, working catering events or managing food production.

You know what a slammed service looks like. You know how disruptive the wrong piece of equipment can be. You understand why a chef cares about output, consistency, labour and getting food out when it needs to go out.

Those things are difficult to teach someone who has never worked in a commercial kitchen.

Our client would rather start with someone who already knows.

They are looking for a foodservice professional who can take that kitchen experience and use it in conversations with prospective customers.

You might speak with a restaurant operator who has responded to an online campaign. Someone else may have met the company at a trade event. Another prospect may have requested information online. There will also be times when you pick up the phone and make the first move yourself.

From there, the conversation is yours.

What kind of operation are they running? What are they producing? Where are the headaches? Are they trying to deal with labour shortages, increase capacity, improve consistency or replace aging equipment? Is there a genuine opportunity for your company’s equipment to help?

If there is, you help move the conversation along.

That could involve showing the customer a product remotely, inviting them to a demonstration, arranging a meeting with the regional sales representative or simply staying in touch until the timing is right.

There is sales involved here, certainly, but this isn’t a role for someone reading a script and racing through a call list. Knowing how kitchens work gives the conversation credibility.

You’ll primarily support Western Canada and will occasionally help French-speaking customers in Quebec. Your French does not need to be perfect. A comfortable working knowledge is sufficient.

For someone wondering what a career after the kitchen might look like, this is a very interesting place to take it.

Position Description

You’ll be part of a small customer success group based in Mississauga, working alongside three other specialists as well as colleagues in events, marketing and field sales.

A typical week could have you:

  • Call a restaurant operator in British Columbia who recently expressed interest in the company’s equipment
  • Do a little homework before the call so you understand the business you’re contacting
  • Talk through how their kitchen currently operates and where they are having trouble
  • Determine whether there is enough of a fit to keep pursuing the opportunity
  • Walk a chef or operator through the equipment remotely using video and presentation materials
  • Host a virtual presentation for one person or a small group
  • Invite an interested prospect to see the equipment demonstrated in person
  • Arrange an appointment between a qualified prospect and the appropriate regional salesperson
  • Run an outbound campaign focused on a particular market or customer group
  • Reconnect with someone you spoke with several weeks earlier because their purchasing timeline has changed
  • Step in to help with a French-speaking customer from Quebec
  • Keep CRM records current so everyone working with the customer knows what has happened and what comes next
  • Help with occasional marketing activities, customer events and company programs

Some prospects will move quickly. Some won’t.

Good follow-up matters here. So does remembering what someone told you three conversations ago, keeping good notes and knowing when to call again without becoming a nuisance.

Over time, you’ll become someone customers recognize and trust, including after equipment has been purchased.

Experience

This is where the kitchen background really matters.

We’re looking for someone with at least 3 years of commercial kitchen experience, ideally gained as a:

  • Chef
  • Kitchen Supervisor
  • Kitchen Manager
  • Catering professional
  • Hospitality foodservice professional
  • Similar position involving hands-on responsibility for a commercial kitchen operation

You should also have experience helping people solve problems remotely, whether by telephone, email, Microsoft Teams or a comparable platform.

Experience with any of the following would be helpful:

  • Cold calling or outbound customer contact
  • Sales or business development
  • Customer service
  • Equipment sales or support
  • CRM software
  • Salesforce
  • Catering or hospitality operations

A bachelor’s degree would be welcomed, but it isn’t what will make someone good at this job. Knowing the foodservice world, communicating well and being able to manage customers properly will count for considerably more.

Qualifications

You don’t need to sound like a salesperson.

You do need to enjoy talking to people.

The person who does well here will probably be curious about how other kitchens operate and comfortable asking questions until they understand what a customer actually needs.

You’ll also need:

  • Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken
  • Working French, sufficient to help customers in Quebec when required
  • The confidence to speak with everyone from chefs and kitchen managers to business owners and senior executives
  • Good judgment about when an opportunity deserves further attention
  • Strong personal organization
  • Very good follow-up habits
  • Attention to detail when documenting customer conversations
  • Comfort learning products with a technical component
  • The motivation to work independently without needing someone to organize your day for you
  • Comfort working toward targets and measurable results
  • The ability to work approximately 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time

Most importantly, you should be able to take what you learned working in foodservice and turn it into useful conversations with people who are still living that world every day.

For the right foodservice professional, that’s a pretty compelling next chapter.

Education

A bachelor’s degree is an asset, but practical industry experience is more important to this search.
