Regional Sales Manager

Massachusetts, United States
Job ID 10582

Company Description

Our client is an established North American manufacturer of PET food packaging solutions serving high-volume food production and processor environments. With proven manufacturing capabilities, technical packaging knowledge, and a product line built for demanding food applications, the company is expanding its commercial presence across the Northeast United States.

This is a confidential search for a senior sales professional who understands the food packaging world at a serious level, particularly PET trays, meat trays, protein packaging, and the expectations of large-scale food processors. The company has the manufacturing foundation, internal technical support, and executive commitment required to grow. What it needs now is a proven commercial leader who can open doors, build credibility quickly, and convert processor knowledge into meaningful new business.

Compensation

This opportunity offers a starting base salary of $140,000, paired with a strong commission plan designed to reward new business development, territory growth, and account conversion.

Additional compensation and benefits include:

  • Performance-based commission structure
  • Full travel expense reimbursement
  • Comprehensive health benefits package
  • Direct access to senior leadership and technical support
  • Opportunity to shape a developing US territory
  • Career growth potential as the US business expands

The Opportunity

This is a high-impact territory development opportunity for a sales professional who already knows how food processors think, buy, evaluate suppliers, and make packaging decisions.

The successful candidate will lead growth across the Northeast US, targeting meat, poultry, seafood, bakery, prepared foods, and other food manufacturing customers requiring PET tray packaging and related custom packaging solutions. This is not a role built around simply maintaining existing accounts. It is best suited to someone who has already built trust with sophisticated buyers, understands the technical and operational demands of processor environments, and can speak credibly with procurement, operations, R&D, plant leadership, and senior decision-makers.

Candidates with experience gained through major food packaging manufacturers, competitive packaging suppliers, or direct work with large processor account networks will bring especially relevant perspective to this mandate.

The territory has meaningful runway. The right person will have the chance to build a strong Northeast US presence backed by an established manufacturer with proven product knowledge and the ability to support custom requirements.

Position Description

The Regional Sales Manager will be responsible for developing new business across the Northeast United States, with a focus on high-volume food processors and manufacturers requiring PET tray packaging solutions.

This role will manage the full sales cycle, from target account identification and prospecting through customer discovery, sampling, quotation, negotiation, and account close. The successful candidate will work closely with Canada-based technical and manufacturing teams to support customer-specific requirements, including tray specifications, performance needs, barrier considerations, and packaging applications tied to protein and food production.

Responsibilities include:

  • Identify, pursue, and close new business with meat, poultry, seafood, bakery, prepared foods, and related food processing accounts
  • Build relationships with procurement, operations, R&D, technical, plant, and executive-level decision-makers
  • Develop a strategic territory plan focused on qualified targets, high-value opportunities, and measurable revenue growth
  • Sell PET tray and food packaging solutions into processor environments where reliability, specifications, performance, and supplier responsiveness matter
  • Collaborate with technical and manufacturing teams to support sampling, specifications, quoting, and custom packaging requirements
  • Represent the company at trade shows, customer meetings, plant visits, and relevant industry events
  • Provide disciplined CRM reporting, forecasting, pipeline updates, and market intelligence
  • Travel regularly throughout the Northeast US territory to develop customer relationships and close business

Success in this role will be measured by the ability to build a credible processor-focused pipeline, convert new accounts, and establish the company as a trusted PET packaging supplier within the Northeast US food processing market.

Experience

The ideal candidate will bring substantial B2B sales experience in food packaging, with direct exposure to PET trays, meat trays, thermoformed packaging, rigid food packaging, or comparable processor-focused packaging solutions.

  • 5 or more years of successful B2B sales experience in food packaging, with a strong preference for PET trays, meat trays, thermoformed packaging, foam packaging, rigid packaging, or related product categories
  • Direct experience selling into meat, poultry, seafood, protein processing, bakery, prepared foods, or other high-volume food manufacturing environments
  • Strong understanding of processor buying dynamics, including how packaging decisions are influenced by procurement, operations, R&D, plant performance, and production requirements
  • Knowledge of tray specifications, barrier requirements, MAP packaging, material performance, and application-specific packaging considerations
  • Familiarity with large processor accounts, regional food manufacturing networks, and the Northeast US food production market
  • Experience gained with an established food packaging manufacturer, converter, packaging supplier, or major processor-facing sales organization would be highly relevant
  • Proven ability to build new business, develop a territory, and convert complex accounts through a disciplined sales process
  • Experience managing technical sales cycles involving samples, specs, quoting, customer trials, and production expectations

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be a polished, credible, and commercially mature sales professional who can operate with independence while staying closely aligned with leadership and internal support teams.

Required qualifications include:

  • Strong new-business development capability with a track record of opening and growing processor accounts
  • Ability to engage confidently with sophisticated food manufacturing and processor customers
  • Technical comfort selling packaging solutions where performance, consistency, cost, and production realities all matter
  • Ability to sell value beyond price alone
  • Existing knowledge of protein processor environments, especially chicken, meat, seafood, and related food production categories
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 50 to 60 percent throughout the Northeast US
  • Based in, or willing to relocate to, the Northeast United States
  • Strong presentation, negotiation, communication, and follow-up skills
  • CRM discipline and accurate pipeline management habits

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Established relationships with processor, procurement, packaging, or operations contacts in the Northeast US
  • Experience selling to major protein processors or large food manufacturing organizations
  • Familiarity with FDA food contact material requirements for PET packaging
  • Experience with cross-border supplier relationships and USMCA-related considerations
  • Background selling custom or technically specified packaging solutions

Education

Post-secondary education in business, marketing, packaging, engineering, food science, or a related field is considered an asset.

Equivalent industry experience, particularly within PET food packaging, meat tray sales, protein processor account development, or technical packaging sales, will also be strongly considered.
