  • $70,000 to $100,000 salary (commensurate upon experience).

The Opportunity

A seasoned and skilled Senior/Intermediate Mechanical Designer is sought to take a leading role in crafting high-performance mechanical systems within an advanced automation environment. Reporting to the Mechanical Design Manager, you will be instrumental in delivering innovative design solutions for custom machinery and robotic systems—driving the future of automated welding and assembly.

Position Description

  • Develop detailed design concepts for jigs, tools, and automated machinery using part data and GD&T drawings
  • Select and specify components for mechanical assemblies that align with performance, safety, and cost parameters
  • Generate accurate 3D models, production drawings, and complete bills of materials using SolidWorks
  • Ensure compliance with relevant safety and design standards, including OSHA, CSA, and customer-specific requirements
  • Oversee and coordinate work with external design contractors to maintain quality and timelines
  • Perform load and stress analyses where necessary to validate design integrity
  • Mentor and guide junior designers, fostering technical growth and team collaboration

Experience

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience designing automated welding and assembly equipment
  • Background in the automotive and automation sectors, particularly robotic weld cells
  • Expertise in tooling, fixture, and jig design for welding applications
  • Proven capability to take ownership of senior-level projects and transition into a design lead role

Qualifications

  • • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • Advanced SolidWorks skills with a strong portfolio of complex, production-ready designs
  • Positive, can-do attitude with a passion for solving complex challenges
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized with a disciplined approach to design
  • Strong communicator and team collaborator who thrives under pressure
  • Demonstrated leadership, sound judgment, and conflict resolution skills
  • Financially astute with the ability to weigh design trade-offs and impacts
  • High-energy performer who adapts quickly and works well under deadlines
  • Willingness to work overtime and travel when needed

Education

Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology
