Quality Assurance Specialist

Company Description

Our client is widely recognized as Canada’s leading food ingredient supplier, known for taking a product from inception through to development, manufacturing, packaging and distribution. They are looking to fill a critical role on their Quality Assurance area.

Compensation

Position Description

This role will be responsible for implementing and continuously improving Food Quality and Safety Programs, managing New Vendor/Manufacture Qualification and facilitating audits that support both customer requirement and facility certifications (example: organic, NHP, GL, Kosher).

  • Lead and manage the development, implementation, review, maintenance and continuous improvement of SQF Food Safety System, HACCP and GMP program.
  • Manage training programs that ensure employee awareness of and compliance to Food Quality and Safety system requirements.
  • Issue, control and maintain SOP’s, Quality Manual and Internal Audit Checklist.
  • Prepare for, schedule and facilitate customer and 3rd party audits, which include annual certification audits such as SQF, NNHP, Organic, Kosher, Halal and unscheduled audits such as CFIA and FDA.
  • Investigate and respond to customer complaints; review the investigation and resolution, prepare customer complaint summaries, assess deviation trends and recurrences for root cause and develop corrective actions to drive continuous improve improvement.
  • Monitor effectiveness of allergen and sanitation control.
  • Keep current on Candida and U.S. regulations pertaining to Food Safety and Quality Assurance

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years QA work experience in a food-manufacturing environment
  • Proven success in a high volume work environment
  • Working experience with regulatory and other certification bodies (example CFIA, FDA, Organic NHPD, Kosher)

Qualifications

  • Post Graduate degree in Food Science or related field
  • Strong working knowledge of GFSI and HACCP programs
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work hands on with operation employees to ensure compliance and comprehension of safety policies and programs
