The Opportunity

Our client is seeking a Pharmacy Assistant to join their growing team in Thorold, Ontario. This is a full-time, on-site role supporting pharmacy operations, sterile and non-sterile compounding activities, and reimbursement processes related to patient support programs.

The successful candidate will play an integral role in ensuring accurate prescription processing, coordinating with insurance providers and patient assistance programs, and supporting clinic orders and pharmacy inventory management. This position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a specialized pharmacy setting while contributing to a team focused on patient care and operational excellence.

Position Description

Compounding Responsibilities

  • Prepare sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical preparations following established formulas, standard operating procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Perform compounding using aseptic technique in a controlled laboratory environment.
  • Accurately complete and verify calculations related to prescription formulations.
  • Document compounding activities and maintain detailed records for the cleanroom facility.
  • Conduct air and surface sampling as required.
  • Monitor and maintain laboratory inventory including expiry checks and stock counts.

 

Pharmacy Operations

  • Enter patient information, billing details, and prescription data accurately into pharmacy systems.
  • Process new and refill prescriptions and support third-party adjudication and insurance billing.
  • Coordinate with patient support programs to resolve insurance issues and facilitate compassionate medication access where applicable.
  • Monitor outstanding insurance issues and assist with payment collections as required.
  • Respond to phone calls, emails, and patient refill requests in a professional manner.
  • Manage prescription and over-the-counter inventory including ordering, tracking, and expiry management.

 

Clinic Order & Verification

  • Communicate with healthcare providers, clinics, and team members regarding orders, supplies, billing, and deliveries.
  • Prioritize and process incoming clinic orders to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Manage orders and deliveries through various technological platforms including pharmacy software and internal communication systems.
  • Prepare clinic orders including order entry, packaging, and purchase order coordination.
  • Ensure proper handling and packaging of temperature-controlled products when required.
  • Verify incoming and outgoing stock transfers between locations and investigate inventory discrepancies.

Experience

  • Experience working in a community or specialty pharmacy environment is considered an asset.
  • Exposure to sterile or non-sterile compounding environments is an asset.
  • Experience with pharmacy billing processes and third-party insurance adjudication is a MUST

Qualifications

  • Strong attention to detail and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with pharmacy management systems (Kroll experience considered an asset).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required. Post-secondary education in pharmacy, healthcare, or a related field is considered an asset.
