The Opportunity

This is a controls-first Automation Electrician role designed for a technically strong professional who thrives at the intersection of automation, troubleshooting, and industrial electrical systems.

You will play a key role in maintaining and optimizing PLC-based systems, HMIs, drives, and automated production equipment, while also applying your electrical expertise to ensure safe, reliable plant operations.

This is an ideal opportunity for a licensed 442A Automation Electrician who has evolved into (or is actively growing into) a controls and automation specialist.

Position Description

This Automation Electrician position is responsible for keeping the facility’s automation and controls systems operating at peak performance, while ensuring the reliability and safety of critical electrical infrastructure.

You will work across a range of industrial technologies, including PLCs, HMIs, variable frequency drives, sensors, and industrial networks. The role blends hands-on troubleshooting and electrical maintenance with continuous improvement, system optimization, and automation integration projects.

  • Troubleshoot and maintain PLC systems, HMIs, VFDs, and automated machinery
  • Support and execute controls upgrades, modifications, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Diagnose and resolve complex electrical and automation-related issues on production equipment
  • Interpret and work from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control logic
  • Perform installation, testing, and commissioning of automation and control systems
  • Support plant operations with preventative and predictive maintenance activities
  • Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams on process improvements and system optimization
  • Ensure compliance with all safety standards, electrical codes, and company procedures

There may also be occasional travel to support related operations in the United States.

You’re not just an electrician—you’re an Automation Electrician who has naturally moved toward controls, systems, and automation.

You enjoy:

  • Digging into why systems fail, not just fixing symptoms
  • Working with PLC logic and automated systems
  • Being the go-to person for complex technical challenges

And you’re looking for a role where your controls expertise is front and center, supported by your electrical foundation.

Qualifications

  • Valid 442A Industrial Electrician License (required)
  • Proven experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment (required)
  • Strong hands-on experience with:
    • PLCs (programming/troubleshooting – e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.)
    • HMIs and industrial control systems
    • VFDs, motors, and automated equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot both electrical and controls systems
  • Solid understanding of industrial automation principles
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and control schematics
  • Experience in the automation sector is a strong asset
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset

Education

  • Valid 442A Industrial Electrician License (required)
  • Post-secondary education in Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation, or a related field is an asset
  • Additional training or certifications in PLC programming, robotics, or industrial automation systems are highly valued
