The Opportunity

This is not your typical brokerage role.

This is a rare opportunity to step inside the walls of a major importer while remaining backed by a world-class customs brokerage.

In this position, you will be embedded directly with one of the brokerage’s most significant and high-profile clients, working on-site in downtown Toronto while operating as a trusted compliance expert. It offers something many professionals in brokerage seek but rarely access: real exposure to the importer side of the business without fully leaving the brokerage world behind.

If you have ever considered transitioning from brokerage into an importer environment, this role represents a powerful and strategic step in that direction.

You will play a key role in ensuring compliant, efficient, and optimized cross-border trade operations while influencing processes, advising stakeholders, and strengthening internal compliance practices.

This is a hybrid role with four days in-office, combining collaboration, visibility, and flexibility.

Position Description

In this role, you will take ownership of customs compliance and trade operations across a high-volume, complex import environment.

  • Ensuring adherence to Canadian and international import and export regulations
  • Managing and supporting daily shipment clearance activities in coordination with internal teams and external partners
  • Reviewing and validating import data including valuation, origin, and product specifications
  • Classifying goods accurately using tariff schedules and confirming classifications for complex products
  • Acting as a central point of communication between suppliers, internal stakeholders, and customs brokers
  • Resolving entry issues and ensuring smooth and timely movement of goods across borders
  • Managing post-entry activities including corrections, adjustments, and duty recovery opportunities
  • Supporting audit readiness, compliance verification, and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Monitoring regulatory changes, tariffs, and trade agreements and advising stakeholders accordingly
  • Identifying risk areas, improving processes, and contributing to compliance program development
  • Analyzing trade data and internal reports to uncover inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement

This role blends technical expertise with advisory responsibility, giving you both operational ownership and strategic influence.

Experience

  • 5 to 7 years of experience in customs compliance, brokerage, or global trade consulting
  • Proven experience managing complex import environments and regulatory requirements
  • Strong background in tariff classification, valuation, and trade compliance processes
  • Experience working cross-functionally with internal stakeholders and external partners

Qualifications

  • Deep knowledge of CBSA regulations and broader import/export requirements
  • Strong analytical capability with the ability to interpret regulations and apply them in real-world scenarios
  • Advanced proficiency with systems and tools such as Excel, ERP platforms, or trade compliance systems
  • Experience with automation, EDI, or compliance systems is highly valued
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and guide stakeholders
  • Calm, solution-oriented approach in fast-paced or high-pressure situations

Education

  • High school diploma required
  • CCS (Certified Customs Specialist) designation required
  • CTCS or additional trade certifications considered an asset
  • Other professional certifications or licenses are considered an advantage
