Compensation

A comprehensive total rewards package is offered, including a $75,000 – $85,000 base salary*, benefits, performance-based bonuses, education reimbursement, and additional perks.

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for a Junior Project Manager, Environmental looking to step into a leadership role within the Hazardous Building Materials space, while continuing to learn, grow, and develop skills on challenging, large-scale projects.

The role is also well-suited to a Junior Project Manager or Senior Project Coordinators who has 5 to 10+ years of hands-on HAZMAT experience and are ready to take on greater ownership of projects, clients, and junior staff.

You will work on technically challenging and meaningful projects, play a key role in protecting worker and public safety, and gain exposure to all phases of environmental project delivery—from proposal and scope development through execution and close-out.

Position Description

Reporting to Senior Project Managers and the Operations Manager, the Junior Project Manager, Environmental supports and leads hazardous materials projects from initiation through completion. Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating and managing HAZMAT projects involving asbestos, lead, mould, silica, PCBs, mercury, and other designated substances
  • Assisting with and preparing project scopes, budgets, proposals, RFPs/RFQs, and tender documents
  • Attending site walkthroughs, client meetings, and contractor meetings
  • Coordinating, scheduling, and overseeing Occupational Health & Safety Technicians and Project Coordinators
  • Supporting site work, monitoring progress, and ensuring work is completed on time, on budget, and in compliance with regulations
  • Preparing and reviewing technical reports and documentation
  • Maintaining strong client relationships and supporting business development initiatives
  • Assisting with project close-out, invoicing, and administrative requirements

 

As experience grows, this role offers increasing autonomy, including the opportunity to lead larger and more complex projects.

Experience

  • Minimum 5–10 years of experience in HAZMAT / hazardous building materials
  • Experience with asbestos, lead, mould, silica, and other designated substances is required
  • Experience as a Senior Project Coordinator is strongly considered, provided there is substantial HAZMAT exposure
  • Prior experience coordinating or managing field staff and contractors
  • Experience working with public and/or private sector clients is an asset

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of Ontario H&S regulations, standards, and guidelines related to hazardous materials
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office and technical reporting tools (e.g., Bluebeam, Adobe Acrobat)
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, site plans, and technical documentation
  • Professional designations (CET, CRSP, EP) are considered an asset

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in building science, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related discipline

 

OR

  • College diploma in a related field combined with relevant certification from a recognized institution
